Barrell tile (Spanish tile if it's mostly red) is the most popular tile in Florida. They can be warranted 50 years and last longer. Many older homes are built with Spanish tile and sometimes every house in a new neighborhood has Spanish tile. The first thing you need to know is if your house doesn't currently have tile, it may not, probably is not architected for a tile other than metal tile. Tile roofs are heavy. You have to have trusses built for tile. Barrell tiles named for their shape come in lots of color variations.

Spanish Barrel tiles are the most common in Florida, but there are Terracotta tiles, Slate tiles, Concrete tiles, Ceramic tiles not to mention the metal tiles described under metal. Other than metal or some type of composite what ties them all together is required architecture and high labor costs. Installing tile is a heavy job especially in the Florida sun. Most homeowners replace tile with the same type but may change the pattern and color. Many tiled roofs are in neighborhoods that require replacement of the same type.
